DescriptionR. J. Reynolds' letter to his soon-to-be-wife Katharine Smith written shortly before their marriage on 27 February 1905. Writing from the New Hoffman House, Madison Square, N.Y., R. J. Reynolds expresses great joy about the upcoming wedding: "I feel that no one on earth that is blessed with a more noble earnest sincere lovely & sweeter or better wife than I will have in you. I love & respect you so much more than I ever did anyone else, that I realy [sic] feel that I never before knew what real true love was; & it must be gods blessing in having me to wait for you & receive more happiness than earlier marriage would have given me. My future life never before looked as bright & lovely to me as it now does. It is you my dearest of all that has made me so happy while it seemed to me I could not love you more or better, but not a day passes without increased love for my dearest of all.”
