DescriptionOne of a pair of bulbous porcelain covered jars painted overall in underglaze blue with hawthorn or prunus blossoms on a cracked-ice background. This painted floral decoration has been popular for more than three hundred years on Chinese and Japanese porcelain. Whether hawthorn or prunus blossoms the decoration suggests the renewal of spring, especially when shown against the background of cracked ice.ProvenanceFrom 1964
