DescriptionThis walnut Jacobean open-arm chair with upholstered seat and back has squared and curved front legs ending in hoof feet with gadrooned collars. The front knees are carved with bellflowers flanked by foliate carving ending in rosettes. The back cabriole legs end in plain pad feet. The s-curved open arms end in flat scrolls with plain supports that curve slightly forward.

The seat and back are upholstered in needlepoint with polychrome flowers overall on black backgrounds. The design of the upholstery on the back includes an exotic bird about the flowers. Large brass tacks outline the outside of the back and bottom of the seat.

Notes:
[1] In the early 1960s Charles H. Babcock (1899-1967) gave the house and its contents to the Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation. The house was then incorporated as a museum and collection (Reynolda House, Inc.) on December 18, 1964 with the signing of the charter at its first board meeting. The museum first opened to the public in September 1965.
