DescriptionThe Library was arranged with armchairs and sofas creating a cozy, informal ensemble in front of the fireplace. All were upholstered in blue damask with summer slipcovers. The well-known decorator, Elsie de Wolfe, introduced floral chintzes to the women of New York, when she decorated the rooms of the Colony Club, an eminent women’s club in the country. Although Katharine selected a floral that was printed on a matte surface rather than a shiny one like chintz, it had the same effect of creating a cheerful setting.
