DescriptionCharlie Babcock incorporated Reynolda House and the adjoining 19 acres as a nonprofit institution. His daughter, Barbara Babcock Millhouse, granddaughter of R.J. and Katharine Reynolds, became its founding president. Reynolda House opened to the public as an institution dedicated to the arts and education in 1965, and as an art museum in 1967, showing a newly acquired collection of 12 American paintings. Here, Millhouse is pictured in front of Thomas Cole’s Home in the Woods (1847), a painting she later gifted to the museum in 1978.ProvenanceMuseum Archives Photograph Collection created when Reynolda House Museum of American Art established its Archives in 1993.
