DescriptionThis wrought-iron floor lamp holds three electric bulbs at the top of a tall stanchion supported on a tripod base with double curved legs ending in curled feet. Gilded and enameled ornaments in the form of tulips decorate the connection between the stanchion and the base (the petals of the three flowers on green-enamel stems are accentuated with yellow, white and turquoise enamels), the lamp's finial with four prominent red-enamel anthers, and the rectangular hand-hold just below the electric bulbs. A bright red-orange gathered silk shade reproduces the original.

The materials and execution of this lamp suggest the work of Edward F. Caldwell & Company (1895-1959) of New York City.

Notes:
[1] In the early 1960s Charles H. Babcock (1899-1967) gave the house and its contents to the Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation. The house was then incorporated as a museum and collection (Reynolda House, Inc.) on December 18, 1964 with the signing of the charter at its first board meeting. The museum first opened to the public in September 1965.
