DescriptionThis long, rectangular table is supported by eight twist-turned legs topped with Corinthian capitals. The legs are supported on large square feet carved with anthemion. Six legs are at the table's ends (three each), while two support the middle. Thick carved stretchers tie the medial legs together, while gently curved stretchers flank the center leg of three and tie them to the legs at the corners. The table's top consists of a wide border carved with lambrequins and framing a smaller marquetry border on a field of walnut veneer. The table's skirt is elaborately carved with masks and leafy scrolls in the style of the Renaissance.

The table is attributed to Edward F. Caldwell & Company (1895-1959), New York City, on the basis of a photograph that survives in the Caldwell Archives in the Library of the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum.

The museum first opened to the public in September 1965.
