DescriptionThe walnut open armchair with wool needlepoint upholstery on seat and back has four cabriole legs ending in pad feet with carved ornament on the front knees and c-scrolls carved on the sides of the front knees. Brass tacks with large heads outline the shape of the chair seat and back. The open arms are shaped as a shepherd’s crook. The polychrome wool upholstery shows large pink and lavender carnations, roses, and other flowers with green leaves. A red-orange compote displays fruit on the chair back. Shells on the front of the seat support a rustic basket of flowers. Butterflies and a squirrel are interspersed.

Notes:
[1] In the early 1960s Charles H. Babcock (1899-1967) gave the house and its contents to the Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation. The house was then incorporated as a museum and collection (Reynolda House, Inc.) on December 18, 1964 with the signing of the charter at its first board meeting. The museum first opened to the public in September 1965.
